Do You Just Wish You Could Take A Long Nap Every Day?

Are You Sleepy At Work or When Driving?

Do You Drag Yourself Out of Bed Each Morning And Wish You Could Grab Another Hour of Sleep?

If yes, you may be one of the millions of Americans who suffer from Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS).

Untreated Excessive Daytime Sleepiness Can Damage the Health and Lifestyles of Both You and Others in a Variety of Ways

Untreated Excessive Daytime Sleepiness Can Damage the Health and Lifestyles of Both You and Others in a Variety of Ways

And, if left untreated you are at risk for developing very serious consequences, such as:

  • High blood pressure
  • Coronary artery (heart) disease
  • Heart attack
  • Injuries – to you or others - due to avoidable home, workplace, or motor vehicle accidents
  • Depression
  • A weakened immune system that leaves you more susceptible to other illnesses and infections

Unfortunately, many people mistakenly believe that being overly tired or sleepy is normal, and they fail to seek help before it’s too late.

In truth, however, EDS is a primary symptom for several serious sleeping disorders such as, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and insomnia.

Therefore, it is extremely important that EDS sufferers obtain accurate diagnoses and treatment for their condition. And this begins with a confidential consultation and evaluation by one of our board-certified sleep physicians or your family doctor.

However, if you're like many people, you may not be certain that the symptoms you're experiencing (or observing in others) are signs of EDS.

If so, use the following "EDS Symptoms Checklist" - which was designed by medical professionals and sleep experts - to help you determine if you, or someone you know, may be suffering from EDS and should consult a physician.

Why Seek Help Immediately?

EDS is a medical condition that negatively affects all aspects of the lives of sufferers. Personal and professional relationships may be strained, job or school performance may be poor, etc.

Furthermore, EDS can actually endanger the lives of others due to avoidable workplace, home, or motor vehicle accidents.

What is EDS?

EDS, or excessive daytime sleepiness, is a very common sleeping disorder where sufferers feel extremely fatigued during normal waking hours.

While EDS is an obvious signal that people may not be getting adequate restorative sleep, it is often overlooked as being symptomatic of other, more serious, sleeping disorders.

EDS interferes with big and small daily activities – including driving, operating heavy machinery, and workplace performance - affecting approximately 43% of adults for at least a few days each month.

A variety of physical and psychological factors as well as lifestyle choices can cause EDS, such as:

  • Persistent stress
  • Lack of exercise
  • Sleep apnea
  • Restless Leg Syndrome (also known as, PLM or Periodic Limb Movement)
  • Heartburn
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine or other stimulants
  • Depression
  • Poor sleep hygiene (extreme room temperatures, bright light exposure before or in bed, caffeine intake later in the day, sleep position, over stimulation before or while in bed - e.g. trying to sleep with TV on - or irregular schedule)
